Recreational Target Shooting

Ever since I can remember my dad would take me target shooting. It was a time when we could get together and brush up on our skills, talk, and create great memories. My grandparents owned several acres surrounded by trees, here we would set up our targets and practice. I always looked forward to Thanksigiving and Christmas time at my grandparents because all of the brothers, and cousins would go out and  target shoot while the women made dinner. This was a time when everyone would pull out their pistols, rifles, handguns, and even guns that they had bought from a little country store that had used guns for sale and great old rifles for sale. Everyone would end up being jealous of what the other one had and would end up trading around. We would choose targets to shoot at like paper targets, popcans, a stump, anything that would challenge the other one. When deer season came we were always ready to go! I remember that one year my dad shot 3 deer in one day! They were all 10 pointers, too. Man could he hunt! He was the best. He would take those deer and get the meat from them and then have them mounted on a wall. He loved guns and really loved hunting. Guns are a great item to pass on to friends, family and children. I love those old memories of target practicing and love to take my grandchildren out to the same farm and teach them what my grandfather taught me.

Things to Know About Fishing Charter

Recreation is an essential factor in the life of every human being. The anglers or the fishermen represent the largest single group of recreational seekers, and have a decided advantage over the other groups who utilize nature's creatures and elements for recreation or food.

The popularity of fishing in many areas has been largely based upon the angling pressure, which is far beyond the normal capacity of the streams and lakes. There are species of fish for every type of angler and each one may choose the species of fish or the method of fishing that has the greatest personal appeal or attraction.

It is for this reason that many people are enticed to spend their vacation in a fishing activity. But, for people who would like to have planned fishing activities, they opt for fishing charters.

Fishing charter is one way of enjoying fishing even if an individual does not have the means or the equipment as far as fishing is concerned. It aims to provide the necessary services in a fishing activity.

However, not all fishing charters are created equal. Hence, it is important to know the factors required to be taken into account before jumping into conclusions.

Here is a list of some mportant factors that need to be considered:

1. The cost of the trip

Like any financial decision, people who would like to use fishing charter should know the required charges of the trip.

It is best to know the necessary requirements like deposits or contract agreements before committing to a fishing charter.

Best of all, people should be aware of the items they are paying for. They should know what the kinds of services included on the package are.

2. The length of time required in each charter trip.

Most captains are enticed to do a little fishing before going back to the dock. This will not pose a problem at all but if it will cost the person, who requested the service, additional charges for extra minutes or hours spent beyond the agreed number of hours, then, that is a problem.

Hence, it is important for the individual to know what time the charter will start and end.

3. The captain

It is important for a person who wants to engage in a fishing charter to know the competency and the skills of the captain. Hence, in order to have a successful fishing activity, it is best to get the experienced captain.

A fishing charter is one way of enjoying fishing at its best.

The Recreational Value of Fishing

Many people consider that fish are only a medium of survival, or to some extent a food supply; yet there is another angle that is little known. The manufacturing industry utilizes more than two billion pounds of fish and fish by-products every year. This is slightly more than is used for food.

What most people do not know is that fishing continues to provide recreational activity of making it one of the most preferred hobbies.

In fact, fishing as a hobby is continuously growing and that is why the estimated number of people who acquire fishing licenses each year is more than 12 million.

Moreover, surveys show that for every dollar spent for a fishing license, there are sixteen dollars spent for equipment, such as fishing tackle, food, clothing, and transportation. There is more money spent on fishing than on any other hobby in existence.
Why is it a Great Hobby?

It is a means of providing something to free the mind and body of the worries of the day. It has also been proven to help in mentoring troubled teens, replacing negative thoughts and activity with more positive traits and pursuits.Fishing is truly a wholesome sport.

The use of all types of fishing equipment has added something that no other feature could possibly accomplish. Thousands of youngsters are enthusiastic to learn how to cast a fly or plug bait.

These youngsters have an interest in fish and fishing and they desire to fish in a lawful and recreational manner.

Boiled down, fish and fishing may be considered one of man's essential resources. It is hoped that further realization of fishing as a hobby will develop the necessary knowledge of the true recreational value of fishing, the fish, and the general conservation of all natural resources as well as the value of good sportsmanship and developing good citizens.

Stop Feeling Guilty, Parents: Video Games Have Benefits

It's true. Video
games can be good for kids
. A study from the University of Oklahoma Health
Sciences Center, researchers discovered that playing active video games can
work as well as doing moderate exercises.

In "Good Games, Good Learning,"
University of Wisconsin-Madison Professor James Gee writes, "Good video
games incorporate good learning principles, principles supported by current
research in Cognitive Science (Gee 2003, 2004). Why? If no one could learn
these games, no one would buy them—and players will not accept easy, dumbed
down or short games."

Gee goes on to give examples of games that
weren't developed or branded as educational, but required problem solving in
order to succeed. Unlike a book where the reader is passive, video games
require action and thinking on the player's part or else the player can't reach
his goals. When the player fails or his character dies, he tries again taking a
different approach knowing the previous one didn't work.

Parents may not have control over applying
good learning and design principles into games. Instead, they can follow these
six tips in finding video
games that benefit kids
.

  1. Go for "E" rated games: Pick games that the Entertainment Software Rating Board
(ESRB) rates as E for everyone or EC for early childhood.
  2. Get physical: Games
keep coming out that require players to move around to interact with the
    game.
  3. Ask teachers and other parents for
    recommendations
    : Schools sometimes have games
available for the kids to play during recess and free time. Other parents
may have checked out games you haven't, so you can get their insight
before spending money on a game.
  4. Try before you buy:
Many web sites offer free downloads of games that you can play for 30 to
60 minutes before the trial runs out. This gives parents a chance to
    assess the game before purchasing.
  5. Go with known brands: Educational software publishers tend to put out reliable games that teach.
Such companies include Broderbund (The Learning Company), Riverdeep
Interactive Learning Limited, Scholastic and Vivendi Universal Games'
    Knowledge Adventures.
  6. Read reviews: Visit
Amazon, game and parenting web sites to read game reviews. Rely on more
than one source and plenty of reviews.

Of course, books and classroom learning
still remain vital. However, video games can challenge the brain because kids
have to figure out the rules of a game and navigate around the virtual world.
Steven Berlin Johnson, author of
Everything
Bad Is Good for You: How Today’s Popular Culture Is Actually Making Us Smarter
,
writes that video games have become more complex, which compel gamers to
multitask and keep track of multiple objectives. So give you kids' bodies and
brains a good workout with the right games.

Florida Travel Brochures Make Your Florida Trip Easier to Plan

When people who do not live in Florida think about
the sunshine state, they don't think of the people who live and work
there, instead they think of it simply as a vacation destination. This
is not a negative way to look at Florida since most Floridians do make
their living from the tourist trade and do their best to make Florida a
fun and interesting place to visit. Florida is culturally diverse and
with a metropolitan city like Miami, Florida is a hot spot for
vacationer's worldwide. While you don't necessarily need Florida travel
brochures to know that Florida also has beaches and remote destinations
like the Florida Keys without them you may well miss the best places to
visit and may spend your time spinning your wheels trying to figure out
the best place to be.

A simple gander at
Florida travel brochures, specifically brochures dedicated to the theme
park industry and you will find that the choices when it comes to these
parks are almost dizzying to say the least. There are so many different
choices and so many different options that the time it takes to decide
and plan such a trip can take as much if not more time than the trip
itself will take.

Another important thing that
a person can learn about planning their trip to Florida in the many
Florida travel brochures available regarding this particular industry
is the best times of year to visit. Like all businesses, the theme park
business has it seasons to. While it is unlikely that you will ever
find a time when the theme parks are like ghost towns, the truth is
that there are times throughout the year when crowds are low and this
in turn will be the best time to visit from a financial aspect as well.

Before
visiting a Florida theme park and even before planning a trip to one of
the many parks in Florida, it would be a good idea to consult with a
few Florida travel brochures before hand. These publications will give
you a good lay of the land. What you can expect to pay, what type of
accommodations are available, and other things like weather climates
during the time of your trip and what times of the year are cheaper
than others. Using travel incentives can make your trip to Florida much
easier than you can imagine.

You Are The Actor Or Actress Of Your Own Story

Author: joshuap

Many thinkers and writers, both past and present, have described human beings in this world as actors and actresses on a big stage, this life, to one great play. Ask yourself, what role are you playing? Who's writing your script? Are you acting out your own story? Or are you simply going through the motions in someone else's play?

We each have a set of ideas or beliefs about ourselves that define us as a central character in a "story" that we're living out. All of the elements of the story have been passed down as part of our culture or upbringing, taught or ingrained, or simply fabricated in our own minds. We then go about enacting our stories as if they were true.

The thing is, most of us don't even realize that we're enacting a story, much less someone else's story. Because of this, we're completely at the mercy of the story and its writer, how it unfolds, how we react to certain events, and the eventual course our life takes.

If we don't take the time to construct our own story, we'll continue enacting our current one, even if it isn't working for us and even if someone else is holding the pen, or typing the keys.

So how can you discover the story you're enacting and decide if it's time to create your own spin-off? Here are some pointers:

1. Assume you are in fact enacting a story. Uncover the elements of your story. Be a detective, hunting for clues. Look at all your behaviors and describe them piece by piece, until the "whole" story emerges.

2. Assess your story. Are you happy with it? What would you change, remove, or add to this story to make it more satisfying? Re-write your story - become the author of the grandest story you can envision - a story that truly inspires.

3. Share your new story with important people in your life. Talk about your specific role in the story and why it appeals to you. The more you talk about your new story, the more it will become a part of you.

4. Commit to living your new role in some way. Make at least one change that is in alignment with the new story.

Finally, explore how your new story fits into the bigger story of your family, organization, corporation, country, and the world. What contribution can your new individual story make to the bigger story?

Remember, you are the author and you can write your own story any way you wish. And lastly, you time is limited. So do not waste it. Spend it wisely!
